Spring is in the air, and so are copious amounts of pollen and other airborne allergens. Allergies and allergy-related illnesses are growing increasingly prevalent in today’s society. Nasal allergies alone impact over 50 million people in the United States today, with the number continually increasing.
It can make spring miserable, whether you have a few sniffles and sneezes or you’re down for the count with every horrible allergy symptom known to man. If you’ve tried conventional allergy treatments before and have been left feeling like there are better options out there, you may be right! At Greater Life Chiropractic, we have the expertise needed to treat your nasal allergies in a safe and natural way.
Why Am I Sneezing?
Let’s start with what causes allergies. When your immune system is working properly, it recognizes and removes hazardous things from your body. However, your immune system will occasionally go into defense mode against a material that is normally deemed safe.
When an allergic reaction occurs, the body activates mast cells, which are specialized immune cells. These mast cells have receptors on the surface of their membranes that identify chemicals that are either harmful or beneficial to the body. Histamines are released when the cells find what they think is a threat. These compounds cause the body to react, causing it to try to expel the contaminants through sneezing, coughing, and other means.
Medications
If you’ve ever tried allergy medications before, you’ll know that they are by no means miracle drugs. The majority of them produce drowsiness and other unpleasant side effects, making it difficult for you to function. Although medications with a “non-drowsy” formula seem ideal, if you have certain health issues, such as high blood pressure, you’re stuck taking the ones that make you tired or sucking it up and dealing with your allergies without medicine.
A Better Way
A spinal misalignment prevents the appropriate passage of information from the neurological system to the brain, weakening your immune system. You can bring balance to your nervous system and strengthen your immune system by seeking a chiropractic adjustment. All of your body’s systems, including your immune system, depend on a healthy nervous system. Getting a chiropractic adjustment, in turn, improves the performance of your whole body. It may seem bizarre, but it’s been shown to help allergies and even more severe and similar conditions such as asthma!
If you or a loved one dread the start of spring due to allergies, give Dr. Thomas Keogh a call at Bare Chiropractic in Billings. We’ll work with you to help strengthen your immune system, realign your spine, and improve your body’s ability to battle allergies. Let’s conquer spring together!
