Neck Misalignments
Our spines have 33 vertebrae. When one of those small bones is shifted or twisted even the tiniest bit, it can wreak havoc in our bodies. These misalignments of vertebrae are also called subluxations, and they put pressure on the spinal cord, which is responsible for transmitting all of the messages from the brain to the rest of the body. The pressure from a subluxation can cause pain, dysfunction in bodily systems, and other problems.
The neck houses many of the nerves that control things in the head and face, meaning a subluxation in this area can cause problems in the mouth, eyes, and so on. Additionally, every nerve that travels to the other parts of the body has to pass through the cervical spine, so a misalignment here can bring about problems in literally any area of the body. So if your primary concern is neck pain, it’s likely that you have a neck misalignment that is well on its way to creating trouble in other areas and systems, so it is imperative that you get it corrected sooner rather than later to minimize problems in the future.
Chiropractic Improves Neck Discomfort
Chiropractors are experts on the spine and nervous system, so any issue with the spine itself is going to be well taken care of by a chiropractor like Dr. Thomas Keogh. Countless studies have been done to explore the efficacy of chiropractic care for neck pain, and the findings are quite encouraging.
One study followed a 10-year-old boy who had intense neck spasms and torticollis, which has to do with contracting neck muscles that lead to a twist or tilt of the head. After being treated in an emergency room and being prescribed heavy medication, his symptoms did not go away, so his family sought chiropractic care for his neck pain. He began care with three adjustments per week, along with twice daily icing of the area. Within just four weeks and twelve adjustments, his neck pain had resolved completely and his range of motion was fully restored.
As with anything involving your health and wellness, time and repetition are key. It’s not reasonable to expect immediate relief from an issue that has been building for months or even years, so we always encourage our practice members to stick with getting consistent adjustments and trust the process. Neck pain can be extremely frustrating and difficult to live with, but we’re confident that with regular adjustments and positive lifestyle changes, you can find relief from neck pain.
